At Calvary we hold firm to the Bible because we believe that it is the word of God. As a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, we agree with what is called the Baptist Faith and Message voted on in the year 2000. To understand what we believe, you can click here and see for yourself not only a list of what we believe, but the references for where we find them in the Bible. But, here are a few brief, but major beliefs, that we have:
Salvation: We believe that all people have sinned and that the wages of sin is death. But by the grace of God, we don't have to die or be under the power of sin. God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross in our place (defeating sin) and He rose from the dead (defeating death). Now, if a person repents (turns from their old life in sin), believes that Jesus died and rose again, and confesses that He is the Lord of their life, then they too share in Jesus' victory over sin and death!
Baptism: We believe that Baptism is something that every believer has been commanded by Jesus to publicly take part in. However, it is only a symbol. We like to say that, "Baptism is an outward expression of an inward act." That means it shows what Jesus has already done within our hearts for those who have repented, believed, and confessed that Jesus is Lord and Savior of their life.
Church Membership: We believe that everyone who places their faith in Jesus is a part of the "universal" church. This means that they are a part of the same church around the world, no matter where they go. But we also believe that it is important to be plugged into a local church family so that there is support and accountability to help us grow in our walk with Christ and serve with others as we are called to do. To become a member at Calvary, the only Biblical requirement is that a person be a believer and be baptized. There's a reason this one is last in our brief list, because we believe this is the order that we see them in the Bible.
